Globe makes learning, teaching easy with GFS Program

As one of the biggest and leading telecommunication providers in the country, Globe Telecom integrates the boundless power of information and communications technology (ICT) to make learning fun, interactive and modern among public school students.
In line with this mission, Globe brought its Global Filipino School (GFS) program to Cebu City National Science High School (CCNSHS) last June 30, 2017.

Globe turned over a mobile cart which also serves as a charging station to the said school. The mobile cart also includes 20 tablets with mirroring capability for projectors and LCD screens, two projector kits with projector screen, 10 Globe Prepaid Supersticks, and free 10 mbps internet connection.

Rex Ebarle, a senior high school teacher of CCNSHS teaching Media Studies said that that the GFS mobile cart is a great help for him to further engage his students in classroom discussions. He noted that through this innovation, he was able to bring technology inside the classroom.
Ebarle is one of the beneficiaries of the teacher training component of the GFS program which equips the teachers with skills to utilize different ICT tools in their subject expertise. This also allows the schools become a teacher training hub for the Department of Education and the trained teacher under the GFS program becomes the trainer of other teachers in neighboring schools.

Meanwhile, Grade 12 student Arianwen Rollan said that the facilities given by Globe helped her and her fellow students in being oriented on how they should use the internet as a platform to learn and express their selves, making their classroom "millennial-friendly".
"Learning has become more fun with this. It really helped us because we were taught a lot of things that we should know in order for us to fully maximize the power of the internet and use it responsibly," she said.
CCNSHS is the 10th school in Cebu province which benefitted from the GFS program which now covers 142 schools all over the country.

Globe Telecom Citizenship Division Manager Miguel Bermudo said that GFS program is Globe's answer to address backlogs in terms of internet connection among schools noting that results of a study shows less than 25% of public schools are connected to the internet.

On her part, Globe Telecom's Head of Broadband Marketing Barbie Dapul said with the GFS program, they are hoping to connect more schools and provide 21st century learning experience.
"We are looking forward to getting more schools on board the GFS program and we, at Globe are also committed on our end to build internet connectivity and to connect more homes and schools here in the Philippines,' she noted.
GFS program started in 2012 with the aim of transforming at least one school in each of the 221 school divisions under DepEd into centers of ICT excellence within four years.
