PPP Center to aid Iloilo City materialize infra projects

ILOILO
City – The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Center will be helping the Iloilo
City government in materializing various projects here.
According
to PPP Center executive director Cosette Canilao, among the PPP projects that
they are looking to assist in Iloilo include the expansion of the Iloilo
International Airport, the development of a railway and the establishment of a
government center.
She
said that for the expansion of the Iloilo International Airport, PPP Center is
asking the private sector to do the operations and maintenance.
Meanwhile,
the proposed railway which is seen to curb the problem on traffic congestion in
Iloilo City, is still on the preliminary discussion with the Iloilo City
government.
However,
she noted that the PPP Center will assist in looking for the consultant who
will help assess the said project. Once materialized, it will traverse
from Iloilo City to the inner towns of Iloilo province.
On
the other hand, the government center which will put all the government offices
under one roof to provide convenience to the transacting public is also
included in the plans of PPP Center for Iloilo.
Canilao
said that that they are now looking the possibility of helping in the
preparation of the business and feasibility studies of the said project.
“The
preparation of the business case will take about four to six months. After the
study, we will see if the project is feasible or not,” she explained.
The
proposed government center is projected to be located in Passi City or Sta. Barbara town.
Previously,
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog stated that PPP projects will further boost the
tourism industries of Iloilo and will bring additional employment and economic
opportunities for the Ilonggos.
