The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by endorser Erich Gonzales and the
Tanchan family.

WHEN I first heard “Choobi Choobi”, honestly, I thought that it is another gay lingo added to my friend’s vocabulary. Later, I realized that it is a restaurant that serves fresh and delicious food – another addition to Iloilo’s growing gastronomic destinations.

Curious about its name, I personally asked the man behind the brand, Stan Tanchan during the official opening of Choobi Choobi in SM City Iloilo Northwing expansion last Feb. 4 about the logic behind the restaurant’s name. He enthusiastically explained to me that Choobi Choobi is a Fookien word which is equivalent to “lingaw lingaw” in Cebuano or having fun. He furthered that his grandfather would always say “choobi choobi” after eating a good meal.

Erich Gonzales entertained her Ilonggo fans before the grand opening.

The newly opened Choobi Choobi at SM City Iloilo is the restaurant’s 15th branch. It opened its first branch in Cebu three years ago out of Tanchan’s love for food. In fact, because of his interest on food, he took up culinary wherein he learned techniques which became useful in his present business.

I was lucky to have a photo opportunity with the owner and the endorser.

Going back to the opening of its 15 branch, the said event was graced by the owner’s family members, Santiago, Sheila and Rufina Tanchan. With them is celebrity endorser Erich Gonzales who entertained her Iloggo fans in a mini-concert and dined with the lucky winners of Choobi Choobi’s Meet and Dine Promo.
